THC vs CBD – Understanding the Difference

The two most known cannabinoids within the cannabis plant are THC & CBD. However, many people wonder about their differences and which is more effective. This is why we have decided to create this article in order to explain the differences and why either is beneficial to the individual.

As medical cannabis continues to expand globally, we’re seeing more interest in these cannabinoids. Thus, we aim to provide a baseline for new users to learn what they need to know about medical cannabis.

THC- 9-Delta-Tetrahydrocannabinol

This is probably the most famous of the cannabinoids – the one responsible for making you high. It’s also one of the most stigmatized cannabinoids.

THC, while psychoactive also has plenty of medical benefits. Some of these benefits include;

  • Pain Relief
  • Neuro-protective
  • Helps with Sleep
  • Helps treat PTSD
  • Promotes Neurogenesis
  • Increased Appetite
  • Anti-Tumor Activities
  • Anti-inflammatory agent

While this list continues, we’ll leave it at that for the moment. The idea here is to give you insight into the world of THC and how medically beneficial it is to the individual. This in combination with other cannabinoids creates what is known as the “Entourage Effect”.

The entourage effect is when cannabinoids work together synergistically to create a stronger medical impact on the individual.

CBD – Cannabidiol

Over the past few years, CBD or Cannabidiol has become much more popular. This especially after Dr. Sanjay Gupta spoke about the health benefits of CBD on CNN. Cannabidiol is the non-psychoactive cannabinoid responsible for balancing the euphoric effects of THC.

Here’s some of CBD’s Medical Benefits;

  • Pain Relief
  • Anti-Seizure properties
  • Anti-Inflammation
  • Cancer Fighter
  • Reduces the risk of Diabetes
  • Helps with Anxiety
  • Helps with Depression
  • Helps with Sleep

As with THC, the list is extensive so we’ll leave it there for now. The point here is that both the cannabinoids have a host of medical benefits.

As mentioned, we cannot say that one is better than the other. They are merely two different cannabinoids that help the individual. In conjunction, they are even more effective. Nonetheless, if you do want cannabinoids but not the high associated with THC, CBD is probably the best for you.

On the other hand, if you need to de-stress and relax, THC and it’s euphoric inducing effects will be the right choice for you.

We recommend taking them both in oil form. When you take THC in oil form, you won’t get high as you would when you smoke it. Of course, you’ll have some energy and a pep in your step, but you won’t be ‘high’.

Final thoughts

If you take cannabis oil, with the full plant profile, it’s one of the best things you can do for your body and mind.
